What does graduation mean on a memecoin launchpad?

What does graduation mean for a memecoin? It differs by venue: an LP migration on pump.fun, a supply threshold on nad.fun, a refund rule, or a status flag.

Graduation is the point at which a token launched on a bonding curve stops trading on that curve and starts trading in a normal liquidity pool on a decentralised exchange. That is the classic definition, and it holds on only some venues: elsewhere graduation triggers a refund, and on at least one it triggers nothing beyond a label.

The classic version: a bonding curve hands off to a DEX

On a bonding-curve launchpad, early trading happens against a formula rather than other traders: buys move the price up a predetermined curve, sells move it back down, and the venue's contract is the counterparty. How that pricing works is set out in what a bonding curve is. Graduation is the exit from that regime — the collected reserve and remaining supply move into a standard AMM pool, and the token trades against other people's liquidity from then on.

pump.fun is the reference implementation. It runs a constant-product AMM across two virtual reserves, SOL and token supply, and at a threshold performs an atomic full-LP migration to PumpSwap, its own DEX. Atomic matters: it completes in one transaction or not at all, so the liquidity is never in neither venue. Creation costs 0 SOL and graduation roughly 0.015 SOL. Reported graduation market caps sit around $69K to $100K, though the exact virtual reserve constants and current threshold are no longer published officially, so precise numbers circulating elsewhere are unverified. What changes for a holder is covered in what happens when a token migrates to a DEX.

nad.fun on Monad follows the same shape with a two-part condition: roughly 225,000 MON collected and around 80% of supply sold, then migration to a DEX. Which DEX, and what nad.fun charges, is not stated in its reachable documentation, so we do not print numbers for those. Four.meme on BNB Chain migrates to PancakeSwap; hood.fun on Robinhood Chain auto-migrates to a locked Uniswap v3 pool.

The version where graduation is a threshold with a refund attached

Pools.trade, Uniswap Labs' Robinhood Chain launchpad, runs two modes and only one uses graduation in anything like the usual sense. Its Crowd Launch mode opens a four-hour window in which bids execute as a TWAP, specifically to make bundling harder. At the close the launch must clear a $10,000 minimum fully diluted valuation; if it does not, funds are refunded. Graduation here is not a migration at all but a threshold test with a defined failure state, which is a materially different thing to promise. A token that fails to graduate on pump.fun stays on the curve; one that fails a Crowd Launch returns the money. Its Instant Launch mode is a conventional bonding curve with no minimum. Either way the pool is a standard Uniswap v4 pool with permanently locked liquidity the creator cannot remove.

The version where nothing happens

Pons.family, the largest Robinhood Chain launchpad by fees as of 31 August 2026, has no bonding curve and no migration. Supply is fixed at one billion, the liquidity pool is live from block one, and buys and sells hit the same pool forever. Pons still uses the word graduation, applied at 4.2 ETH of paired WETH, but nothing moves and no mechanism changes state — it is a status flag, not a mechanical event. A graduated Pons token and an ungraduated one trade in structurally identical pools.

Clanker on Base does not have the concept at all: it deploys directly into a Uniswap v4 pool with no bonding curve, so there is no pre-DEX phase to leave.

Why a cross-venue "graduation rate" is close to meaningless

If graduation means an LP migration on one venue, a supply-and-reserve threshold on another, a refund condition on a third and a cosmetic label on a fourth, a percentage computed across venues adds together four different events. A Pons graduation rate and a pump.fun graduation rate are not comparable quantities.

The number also moves within one venue depending on how long you watch: a token that graduates two hours after launch is invisible to a study observing each mint for six minutes. That problem, and the wide range of published figures it produces, is the subject of why so few memecoins graduate. Per-venue figures, with each venue's definition stated alongside, are tracked in graduation rates recorded per launchpad.

What graduation does not tell you

Graduating is a liquidity event, not a quality signal: it says capital entered the curve, nothing more.

It does not mean the liquidity is locked — that depends on the venue. Pools.trade locks permanently and hood.fun migrates into a locked pool; others do not, and where LP tokens are left with the deployer, graduation can be the moment an exit becomes possible rather than the moment risk drops. Nor does it say anything about developer holdings, bundling, or whether anyone is still trading a day later. Live launch and graduation data by venue sits on the Meme Central analytics hub.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to my tokens when a memecoin graduates?

On a migrating venue such as pump.fun, nothing happens to your balance — the reserve and remaining supply move into a DEX pool and your holding trades there instead. Price can move sharply around the migration as pricing shifts from a formula to an order-driven pool. On Pons nothing happens, because nothing migrates.

What market cap does a token graduate at on pump.fun?

Reported graduation market caps sit roughly in the $69K to $100K region, but pump.fun no longer publishes its virtual reserve constants or current threshold, so precise figures quoted elsewhere are unverified. Graduation itself costs about 0.015 SOL. Treat any exact threshold as approximate unless it cites the contract.

Does graduation mean a memecoin is safe?

No. It measures capital that entered a bonding curve, not the quality of anything. Liquidity may or may not be locked depending on venue, developer holdings are unaffected, and where LP tokens go to the deployer, graduation can be the point at which removal becomes possible rather than a reduction in risk.

Why do different launchpads report such different graduation rates?

Because they count different events. An atomic LP migration, a reserve-and-supply threshold, a refundable minimum FDV and a status flag are four distinct things all called graduation. Add differing observation windows and published figures diverge by an order of magnitude without any being wrong.

A lock is the part of graduation the venue may not do for you

Graduation moves liquidity; it does not necessarily secure it. Team Finance — built by TrustSwap, which also builds Meme Central — locks LP tokens for a fixed term on Ethereum, Robinhood Chain, Polygon, Base and BNB, and that lock shows as a verified badge on the token's page in the Meme Central feed. It applies to a token from any launchpad and matters most where LP tokens go to the deployer at migration. It does not stop a developer selling their own allocation, and it does not make a graduated token a good one.

Nothing here is financial, legal or tax advice. Memecoins are extremely high-risk: most lose most of their value, and the majority of tokens launched never reach a decentralised exchange at all. Never spend money you cannot afford to lose entirely. Meme Central does not recommend any specific token. Data described as Meme Central's own reflects tokens indexed by Meme Central and is not whole-market data.
